Keeping fish

Keeping fish is a wonderful hobby with many different branches. Some aquarists keep tiny nano reef tanks, while others set up huge indoor or outdoor ponds for their pets do dwell in. There is also a long row of “normal” sized hobby aquariums to choose among – including square, round and octagon shaped ones.

Successfully caring for tropical fish (as well as for cold water fish) is always easier if you chose to set up the right aquarium or pond, e.g. one that is suitable for your particular preferences and skill level. You should for instance ideally avoid tiny nano tanks if you are a beginner, because keeping the water quality up in such a small amount of water is really tricky. Marine aquariums are also normally not recommended for novice fish keepers since it is difficult to find sturdy marine species. You can read more about the difference between saltwater and freshwater aquariums on this marine aquarium info site. If decide to keep your fish in an outdoor pond, I recommend that you do some reading on how to keep the pond free from litter and how to keep predatory animals, e.g. cats and birds of prey, from catching your bellowed fish. It can also be a good idea to learn more about algae prevention in ponds before you launch your project.
